Watanga Football Club was founded on December 24, 1997 at Watanga base just outside of Monrovia. After the first civil war that ended in 1996 Former ex-combating of the rebel movement with nothing to do decided to make themself useful to the society. They form the Watanga FC name after the camp they reside "Camp Watanga".The Liberian Premier League is the highest division in football in Liberia. The league began in 1956 and has never won by a club outside Monrovia.
