Water Allocation and Simulation using MIKE BASIN Model

A number of master plan studies where conducted for Blue Bile river basin of Ethiopia with the objective of preparing water allocation and utilization plan (s) under alternative development scenarios. On these studies a limited number of local professional where involved, thus will limit enough knowledge transfers to our professionals. And also no great research effort has been put in to evaluation of the developed master plans under updated models for water allocation in our country especially for Blue Nile (Abbay) river basin. This study, therefore, serve as an additional proof of the conducted master plan studies on the BNRB and Indicative source of initial information for planners, designers and implementing organs. It is also up to the expectation of the author that the finding will provide Scientific and updated justification for downstream countries and creating forum of discussion and information interchange among indigenous professionals and concerned bodies. On other hand, the study helps to share collected data for other researchers and information for the recent study on BNRB Master Plan.

Fasikaw Dessie holds M.Sc in Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering from the University of Arba Minch in 2008. He then worked as a lecturer at Arba Minch University in the department of Hydraulic Engineering. Currently he is working as Energy advisor in GTZ-Energizing Development Programme in Awassa,Ethiopia.
