A water powered clock, despite its name, is actually not powered by water. It is quite different from a water clock or clepsydra (Greek kleptein, to steal; hydro, water) which is operated by means of a regulated flow of liquid.In a water powered clock, water is actually used as the conducting agent that completes the electrical circuit for the clock. A slowly dissolving piece of Zinc is used as the source of energy that powers the clock. Usage life will vary depending on the amount of Zinc, which could be from months to several years.
