Ways of Becoming
Details
Student diasporas are developing mostly in western countries as a consequence of globalization and internationalization of education. This has opened a new avenue for researching on how international students adjust to their new academic landscape. While South Asian students constitute a large cohort of international student population in the west, there have been no studies, particularly any qualitative appraisal about them. Based on a longitudinal emic study conducted in Australia, this book is an attempt to tell the stories of how South Asian students adapt to postgraduate environment in Australia. At the end of the first two semesters, they have been found to be neither Australian nor anti-Australian, but non-Australian. The study suggests what the western universities can do to facilitate adaptation to the academic and social life of the universities, and also a direction for the next course research.
