WEAK STATE BEHAVIOUR WITHIN THE BALANCE OF POWER
Details
The behavior of states in the international system is largely determined by the power relations among them and the differences among them. Order in the international system is constantly threatened because of the possibility of some states to resort to power or war to improve their relative positions. Throughout history, states have frequently forced each other or threatened each other with the use of force. It is important for states to correctly analyze their capacities to protect, sustain or advance their national interests. The term "small power" is frequently used in the literature and has an ancient tradition of use. However, it is a semantically and logically self-contradictory term. The main feature of weak states is actually the lack of resistance or power, and therefore they are constantly busy with the problem of survival. Purpose of this study is to reveal the problems faced by weak states and to examine their behavior to survive in the international balance of power.
