Wechselseitige Wahrnehmung der Religionen im Spätmittelalter und in der Frühen Neuzeit
Details
The Neuen Abhandlungen der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen are the most important publication produced by the Göttingen Academy and follow a long and splendid tradition. From 1752 to 1842 the "Königliche Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften", as the Academy was then known, produced its Latin Commentarii and Commentationes, in which such reknowned scholars as Haller, Gesner, Blumenbach, Heyne and Gauß presented their work. Since 1842 the Academy has published the Abhandlungen in German, containing the results of work by members of the Academy, staff in the Academy's research projects and invited scholars. The publications are the product of a lecture and ensuing discussion at the Academy. On the whole the Neuen Abhandlungen will, just as its precessor the Abhandlungen , contain contributions from the entire field of the humanities.
This volume combines a number of approaches to the history of the conflict between religions and cultures. Contributions from history, art and legal history, as well as Judaistic studies deal with new conceptual considerations on the history of perceptions in the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern period; above all interpretations of non-European religions, of paganism in their own European tradition, and how ecclesiastic law treated non-believers in relation to the heretics. The second volume is in preparation.

Zusammenfassung
"Es bleibt zu hoffen, dass die lesenwerten Bände dem fächerübergreifenden Gespräch zu einem aktuellen und brisanten Thema weitere Impulse geben werden."
Hans-Martin Kirn in: Theologische Literaturzeitung 6/2014
"The perception and interpretation of other religions in the later Middle Ages and early modern period [...] is a topic currently much in vogue. The particular contribution of this volume is to combine some significant theoretical contributions [...] with case studies on topics as diverse as the carcasses of birds of paradise [...].
