Whittier is on the northeast shore of the Kenai Peninsula, at the head of Passage Canal, on the west side of Prince William Sound. Whittier is 120 km southeast of Anchorage. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.7 square miles, of which, 12.5 square miles of it is land and 7.2 square miles of it is water.
