Why humanities in times of hard sciences?

Why humanities in times of scientific and technological advances?The humanities are disappearing from curricula, careers, institutes. The supreme value of the practical, the immediate, the indispensable prevails. Under this motto of the functional, one tends to lose sight of the background of science: to be a practice that offers human beings in general elements for better living. What would this objective of "better living" mean? Here is a first interpretative horizon. Better living is the capacity to enjoy life without needing too many things. Despite the fact that today we have many forms of entertainment at our disposal, has the level of satisfaction increased worldwide? The statistics are not very encouraging.
