William Golding's Lord of the Flies: A critical study Project
Details
William Golding's Lord of the Flies is one of the most important and outstanding novel has been written after the second World War.The novel is an allegorical novel which talks about the conflict between the impulse toward civilization and impulse toward savagery that rages within each human beings. It also concerns the breakdown of civilization as resulting from nothing more complex than the inherent evil of man: "So the boys try to construct a civilization on the island; but it breaks down in blood and terror because the boys are suffering from the terrible disease of being human".( Tiger, 85). The novel show us how a civilized individual can be savage where he is without law, rules and the lacking of parenting authority, for example ,when the boys start their life on the island, they begin to behave violently. Jack is the character who tries always to be the leader of the boys despite of the election of Ralph as a chief of the boys. This shows how human beings can follow the evil in absence of rules and laws.
Autorentext
My interest in literature was gradually shaped throughout my life by all the various ways in which I have experienced languages: as a student, translator, and as a teacher. However, it was the times spent living in Iraq and later in India that made me fully understand that language can be a means of conveying much more than just our thoughts.
