This work presents a comprehensive investigation of a barrier-vehicle interaction in a crosswind scenario. The main effort was to study the feasibility of the numerical simulation without the momentum sink approach for the wind barrier modeling. The goal was to treat the complex unresolved flow near and through the wind barrier openings at a detailed level. In this work, a geometrically accurate three-dimensional wind barrier model was used in the numerical study. Different levels of grid refinements were performed for grid independence investigation. Experimental research was conducted to validate the numerical results. An advanced aerodynamic CFD simulation, DDES, was utilized in analyzing the transient crosswind scenario. In addition, a parametric optimization method, which combines state-of-the-art scientific research and industrial requirements, was presented. In conclusion, guidelines were defined for a complete wind barrier research in the road vehicle crosswind protection.

Marijo Telenta is born on 27.01.1980 in Shtip, R. Macedonia. He graduated at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering-Skopje in 2003. He finished his master thesis at Ohio University, OH, USA in 2007. Now, he is a PhD student at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana, R. Slovenia.
