This work includes design, optimisation, manufacture and test of two set HAWT blades. Many of horizontal axis wind turbine blade design parameters had been studied for two blade sections, symmetrical and unsymmetrical airfoils, NACA 0012 and NACA 4412 airfoil respectively. The computer program Fortran 90 was used to analyse and calculate the design data and compared with CFD code to validate the results, and then it is optimized using Schmitz, Betz and Lift / Drag method for horizontal axis wind turbine blade chord and Pitch angle. Experimental work has been done for two set of blades (three blades of each set) for variable pitch angle and variable wind speed. The results illustrated that the highest power coefficient (Cp) obtained is when the chord length and pitch angle are optimized together. The results showed that (Cp=0.472) for NACA 4412 and (Cp=0.481) for NACA 0012. After optimization the results were (16.7%) improvement in Cp for NACA 4412 and (15%) for NACA 0012 when using lift/drag method and Schmitz method together. Also the results showed(17%) improvement in Cp for NACA 4412 and (10%) for NACA 0012 when using lift/drag method and Betz method together.
