Wireless Technology in Agribusiness

Wireless technologies and mobile communication is shifting the way people communicate and do business. Wireless technologies are being used in the work place and in homes. These technologies include infrared, Bluetooth and Zigbee, Radio frequency identification (RFID), global system mobile communications (GSM), general packet radio service (GPRS) and global positioning satellite (GPS). There is potential growth of wireless technologies, principally in wireless sensors and sensor networks, from environmental or ecological monitoring to machine to machine interaction. Environmental monitoring using zigbee nodes to relay data back to office in real time, Research in animal health using GPRS and GPS, Precision farming using GPS system, Dairymaster using RFID and GSM for herd management, Bluetooth radio communication . The wireless technologies market is to steadily grow with new technologies and applications. Agriculture is just starting to avail of these technologies with animal tracking, animal identification and also, with machine guidance automation to increase agricultural output while minimising labour input.
