Self- help groups are key elements for the empowerment of women and help them to improve their socio-economic condition and acquire small credit assets. Socio-economic status is an important variable. Demographic variables also play a major role in influencing the status of women. In this background, it is thought that any meaningful study of the SHG and non-SHG women must take into account number of factors, which describe the socio-economic conditions of SHG and Non-SHG group women.
