Writer's Workshop and English Language Learners

English Language Learner (ELL) students are required
to do Writer''s Workshop as part of their literacy
development in many parts of the United States. How
can ELL students with level 1 (little or no English
skills) write when they do not have oral skills yet?
This work provides some insights and ideas through a
curriculum re-design as to what can be done in
Kindergarten and primary grade levels in general to
help develop and strengthen oral skills while doing
writing. This re-design should help struggling
literacy teachers, ELL teachers, and educational
assistants working with students with little or no
English to infuse oral development opportunities as
much as possible while doing Writer''s Workshop.
