X-Band RF Front-end for FMCW Radar
Details
Avalanches have been known to cause massive loss of lives and damage to human properties due to faults in the snowpack caused either due to seismic activities or human involvement. Need for a modern and a noninvasive system to monitor the snow-clad region to predict the avalanches is necessary in the current modern world where weather forecast prediction is considered far advanced. The main purpose of this thesis is to implement the front-end such that better resolution is achieved, which can be done by increasing the sweep bandwidth of the radar front-end. Complete X-band is chosen as the sweep range of the frontend since X-band is known for its application in radar and its non-interference with the commercial communication bands. PCB is built in such a way that it fits the existing system. Several issues were observed on the newly designed front-end, due to which design was improvised by shifting the sweep bandwidth to 6-8 GHz which still offers better resolution than the existing RF front-end.
