Xabier Etxeita Gorritxategi (born October 31, 1987 in Zornotza, Biscay) is a Spanish/Basque footballer who currently plays for FC Cartagena on loan from Athletic Bilbao, mainly as a central defender. A product of Athletic de Bilbao's prolific youth ranks, Lezama, Etxeita's first three matches with the first team, in 2008 09's first division, were not without incidents: in his first, on November 16, 2008, a 2 0 home win against neighbours CA Osasuna, he subbed in for injured Ustaritz, being sent off in the following, another 2 0 home success, against CD Numancia. On December 21, he replaced Ander Murillo, whom also retired before half-time due to injury in a 1 0 success at Real Betis. During the season, however, Etxeita was mainly registered with the B side.
