High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Xaquixahuana was a fortress built in the Cuzco Valley in the Andes by the Inca civilisation. It was here that the Lord of Cuzco, Viracocha, fled during the Chanca attack, and it was also the site of a battle against the Spanish. Fortifications are military constructions and buildings designed for defence in warfare and military bases. Humans have constructed defensive works for many thousands of years, in a variety of increasingly complex designs. The term is derived from the Latin fortis ("strong") and facere ("to make").
