A border blaster is a licensed commercial radio station that transmits at very high power from one nation to another. Border Blasters should not be confused with international broadcast stations. (However this term does not only apply to licensed stations, though that may be where the phrase originates: For example in Ireland, during the 1990s and 2000s border busters/blasters was a phrase used to refer to pirate FM stations setting up on high ground in the Irish Republic with medium powered transmitters (100 W+) in order to enable them to transmit into Northern Ireland where the UK governing body (OfCom) have jurisdiction.
