Youth and Local Governance
Details
Over the years, "Youth Development" and "Youth Participation" have become a fad. It has become a one-way street where adults "call on youth" to action or youth "call on adults" to give youth opportunity. However, both parties forget that the highway for youth development and participation is one of mutual dependence and co-habitation. This book explores the possibility of youth-adult engagement that lead to a positive synergy and wider societal benefit from such engagement; in the context of local governance. Sierra Leone provides the perfect setting where more than 50% of the population is considered youth and a history of more than 10years of war led by young people due to a perceived alienation. Ten years forward, Sierra Leonean youth still feel alienated. Perhaps it is time to review youth engagement from the bottom up.
