Youth in Agriculture

The challenge of rural-urban migration among youths in recent times cannot be underestimated. In Kaduna state, most of the communities are agrarian, but greater proportions of the youths in local government areas of the state do not like to engage in farming. However, the development of the agricultural sector will not progress independently of the youth. The current inability of local food production to meet increasing population demand can only be achieved with the integration of enterprising youths into farming.This book gives an insight to what the youths need and where they are lacking in terms of their participation in agriculture. In addition, reasons why involvement of the youth in agricultural activities has been steadily declining in recent years to the present state. The book gives a number of recommendations and initiatives to the stakeholders to improve youth employment to place agriculture at the forefront as one of the youth promising sectors for youth employment. Therefore, the book is a must read for those concerned with youth employment and it will be useful to the agricultural policy makers in developing countries.
