Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed, (ND), ndc, psc (born 1957) is the present Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Navy. He is preceded by Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam ndu, psc, BN. Admiral Zahir was born in 1957 at Kapasia upazilla under Gazipur District. He is the son of renowned social worker, Late Shafiuddin Ahmed. Admiral Zahir joined Bangladesh Navy in July 1976 as an Officer Cadet. He is a proud member of the pioneer batch of Bangladesh Navy. After finishing his training successfully, he graduated with distinction from United Kingdom's Brittania Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and thus earned his commission. In his long naval career he took various training from Netherlands, Pakistan, China and USA. The Admiral completed his specialization in Navigation and Direction (ND) from Pakistan. Admiral Zahir graduated from Defence Services Command and Staff College, Dhaka, and subsequently graduated as the class valedictorian from US Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. The Admiral also completed his NDC from National Defence College, Mirpur.
