Znojmo castle was built on a conspicuous rock to update the old castle at Hradi t across the Granice Valley from Znojmo, which was not sufficient for military standards at that time.A new fortress was built on a conspicuous rock opposite Hradi t , from where it was possible to observe events in the river valley and it''s surroundings.The first building was wooden and would have been completed around 1080.In 1140 it was besieged and eventually razed to the ground.
